Sign Approval - Permanent

Most permanent, altered, or temporary signs require approval from the City. Sign regulations can be found in the Community Development Code Chapter 52.  Sign installation may also require a structural building permit.

Sign approvals are void after 90 days if not installed or not installed as approved. Applicants must notify the Planning Department by email when the installation is complete. The sign approval fee is doubled if a sign is erected or placed before approval.

Applicants should submit sign approval applications and supporting documents online rather than emailing or delivering paper copies.

Along with the application form, attach:

  • A scaled design plan showing the dimensions, height, sign area, materials, method of attachment, source of illumination, and the relationship to any building or structure to which it is proposed to be installed or affixed or to which it relates. Include the sign's color, graphics, and letter size and style.
  • A scaled site plan showing the approximate location of the proposed sign(s), existing buildings and signs, streets and sidewalks, clear vision triangle, easements, and the location of any structures and freestanding signs on abutting properties.
