West Linn City Council Declares State of Emergency

WEST LINN CITY COUNCIL DECLARES STATE OF EMERGENCY

West Linn Takes Action to Help Community and Slow Spread of COVID-19

March 19th, 2020

West Linn, OR – Today, the City of West Linn took further precautions to protect the health and well-being of our community in light of the current novel coronavirus outbreak. At their meeting this afternoon, West Linn City Council declared a state of emergency and initiated actions toward protecting residential and commercial tenants from evictions. Additionally, the City’s Emergency Operations Center has been activated and all City closures have been extended to April 30th.

The emergency declaration is a preparedness measure that enables the City to more nimbly mobilize resources to better address potential future impacts caused by COVID-19. The declaration also facilitates quicker coordination with other public agencies and allows funds to be redirected for emergency use as needed to safeguard the West Linn community. The declaration is set to expire on April 30th, 2020, but may be renewed if necessary. The full emergency declaration and information regarding details on eviction protections will be posted to the City webpage as it is available.

In accordance with the City’s Emergency Operations Plan, the City has also activated its Emergency Operations Center (EOC). Many surrounding jurisdictions have also activated their EOCs. The EOC provides a framework for communications, mobilizing resources, documentation, and developing plans across all the City’s functions. The EOC is currently operating at the lowest level of activation in support of changes to City operations and as a point of contact with the Clackamas County EOC.

Finally, all City closures have been extended to April 30th. This includes City Hall, Library, Adult Community Center, McLean House, Robinwood Station, Sunset Fire Hall, and the Community Room at the Police Station. All City events, recreation programs, and park athletic fields will also remain closed to the public until April 30th. Out of an abundance of caution and in line with public health guidance, we are currently discouraging use of play equipment at our parks and encouraging social distancing precautions while in public spaces. Please continue to find time to get outside and explore our beautiful parks, trails and natural spaces.
