City of West Linn Names Ken Warner as Director of Parks & Recreation
WEST LINN, OR – November 19, 2019 – The City of West Linn is excited to announce that Ken Warner has been appointed Director of Parks & Recreation.
“As Interim Director, Ken has already begun to convene department staff and has plans for creating a departmental mission and goals, improving lines of communication, and creating a clear set of project and operational priorities,” said City Manager Eileen Stein. “Ken has worked in this community for 26 years and has a thorough knowledge of our systems, City procedures, and our staff. We’re fortunate to have the right person right here waiting to take on the responsibility of leading the department into the future.”
“Over the past 26 years under the leadership of Ken Worcester, and with a hard working staff, the Parks & Recreation Department has created an excellent, balanced park system, recreation program and long list of great community special events,” stated Mr. Warner. “I am honored to serve as the next Parks & Recreation Director.”
Prior to his time with the City of West Linn, Mr. Warner served as the Recreation Director with Morale Welfare & Recreation Department of the Army in Wildflecken Germany, and Dyess Air Force Base in Taylor County, Texas. Mr. Warner was hired on with the City of West Linn as the first-ever Recreation Coordinator in February 1993, and has served in several different roles within the Parks & Recreation Department during his time with the City. When asked if there was a project in West Linn that he was most proud to be involved with, Mr. Warner said “There have been many great projects in West Linn as we have built the park system over the years, but two stand out as having the most impact due to overall use of the facilities – the Adult Community Center, both the original build and expansion, and the Skate Park.”
Mr. Warner will begin his position as Director effective immediately. There are currently no plans to fill his previous position of Assistant Director of Parks and Recreation. Additionally, a retirement party will be held for Ken Worcester, former Parks and Recreation Director, this Friday November 22, 2019, beginning at 5:00pm at the Adult Community Center.
