West Linn Announces John Williams as New City Manager

WEST LINN, OR – July 28, 2022 – The City of West Linn is pleased to announce John Williams has been selected as the next City Manager. Williams was chosen by unanimous vote at the city council meeting on Monday, July 25.

Williams brings valuable experience serving West Linn to the position, having served as Deputy City Manager and Community Development Director for the past five years. He also served as Interim City Manager prior to the hiring of outgoing manager Jerry Gabrielatos.

John Williams holds a graduate degree in Public Administration from Lewis and Clark College and has 24 years of local government experience in Oregon. Prior to joining the City of West Linn, he held various planning positions with the City of Canby, Oregon Metro, and the Oregon Department of Transportation.

Williams stated: “I’m really excited to take this work on. There are many challenges facing West Linn, but we have a great employee team, a proactive Council, and residents who feel passionately about this community. I live here in West Linn and believe strongly in public service for the community I live in, so am honored to be chosen as City Manager.”

Gabrielatos shared the following sentiments: “After working alongside John for the last two years, I have every confidence that he will keep the city moving forward. He cares deeply about the community… He is thoughtful, resilient and motivated.”

Several councilmembers cited William’s knowledgeability, dedication, and effectiveness as factors in their decision. Councilor Todd Jones said that Williams “knows the community, and knows it well,” while Council President Rory Bialostosky called him “a tremendous candidate”.
