I-205 Improvements Project
FIRST PHASE OF I-205 IMPROVEMENTS BEGINS LATE SPRING/EARLY SUMMER 2022
The first phase of the I-205 Improvements Project (Phase 1A) will begin construction in late spring/early summer 2022 and will make the Abernethy Bridge the first earthquake-ready highway bridge across the Willamette River. Other improvements in this phase include:
- Removing the current I-205 northbound on-ramp from OR 43 and replacing it with a roundabout.
- Realigning or widening the on- and off-ramps at OR 99E.
- Adding improvements for people who walk and bike on OR 43, Clackamette Drive and OR 99E.
- Building a sound wall near the southbound lanes of I-205 at exit 9.
This fall, tree removal will occur on each bank of the Willamette River underneath the Abernethy Bridge in Oregon City and West Linn to prepare the site for construction access for the bridge contractor. This work needs to occur before construction begins to avoid nesting birds and heavy rain. Signs will alert people to the work. Trees will be replanted at the end of construction.
The project will be constructed in phases. The first phase, which stretches from 10th Street to OR 213, consists of four smaller packages (Phase 1A – 1D). Phase 2, Stafford Rd to 10th St, packages are still to be determined.
