City of West Linn Summer Events Cancelled
WEST LINN, OR – May 13, 2020 – The COVID-19 pandemic has had an unimaginable impact upon the world around us, and that includes the West Linn community. Following the guidance announced by Governor Kate Brown on May 7, 2020 and after careful consideration the City has made the extremely difficult decision to cancel the following events:
- Old Time Fair, July 17-19, 2020, Willamette Park
- Music in the Park, July 23-August 2, 2020, Tanner Creek Park
- Movies in the Park, July 24-August 4, 2020, Mary S. Young Park
- Street Dance, July 13, 2020. Historic Willamette Area
- Tentatively rescheduled to Oct. 10, 2020 as the Harvest Willamette Street Dance
The decision to cancel these City events was not taken lightly and was made with the current public health guidelines from the Center for Disease Control (CDC), Oregon Health Authority, and the direction of Governor Kate Brown.
A press release issued by Governor Brown’s office on May 7, 2020 stated “large gatherings such as conventions, festivals, and major concerts and live audience sporting events will need to be cancelled at least through September. Restarting events of this size will require a reliable treatment or prevention, like a vaccine, which is many months off. Further guidance on large events will be provided in the coming months.”
The health and wellness of the West Linn community continues to be our number one priority. As Clackamas County works to enter Phase 1 for limited reopening, it is clear that physical distancing and limiting the size of large group gatherings will remain in place through at least the summer. We thank you for your continued patience and support as we work to navigate these new rules and regulations.
