2021 Robert Moore Award Winner
Congratulations to Mike Watters, winner of the 2021 Robert Moore Award!
Mike was nominated for his 30+ years of service to his community. He has held multiple officer roles on the board of the Friends of McLean Park and House. He is an active member of the Friends of McLean House, West Linn Lions Club, Willamette Falls Heritage Coalition, Willamette Falls Heritage Foundation, West Linn Historical Society, and the Bolton Neighborhood Association. He volunteers with Friends of Maddax Woods, several Scout troops, and countless others. Mike has organized and operated many community activities and programs, such as Boat Safety for Kids, Bolton Daze, the Old-Fashioned Fair, and Locks Fest. Mike can often be found up on ladders trimming trees for others, running lawn game for kids, writing grants, and helping neighbors with flooded basements. Due to Mike's decades of contributions to improving quality of life in West Linn for all, he is the winner of the 2021 Robert Moore Award.
The Robert Moore Award was created by the West Linn City Council in 2013 to honor individuals who contribute to the quality of life in our community without reward or recognition. Named after the founder of West Linn, Robert Moore, the award commemorates Moore’s selfless decision to name the town he founded after his friend and mentor, Dr. Lewis Linn. Because of people like Robert Moore and the recipients of the Robert Moore Award, West Linn is the wonderful community it is today.
Nominations for citizens who spend their free time volunteering, taking time to help their neighbors, trying to make a difference in the lives of those around them, or sharing acts of kindness with others were collected throughout 2021. Nominations were then reviewed and forwarded to City Council by a community review panel composed of previous winners, including Alexana Kachirisky, Lisa Clifton, Dave Kruse, Larry McIntyre, Don Kingsborough, Dave Kleinke, Roger Shepherd, and Phil Rees.
