West Linn Receives “Clean” Audit Opinion

The Unqualified Opinion is the City’s First “Clean” Audit Opinion Since 2003 WEST LINN – Certified public accounting firm Talbot, Korvola & Warwick, LLP issued the City of West Linn a “clean,” or unqualified audit opinion on the City’s financial statements for the fiscal year ended June 30, 2008. State law in Oregon requires that local governments publish a complete set of audited financial statements. West Linn’s publication of the 2008 audit in advance of the deadline as extended by the Secretary of State’s office is the City’s first audit completed on-time since 1998. Also for the first time since 1998, the City plans to submit the 2008 audit document for the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting award from the Governmental Finance Officers Association. The Certificate is a prestigious national award that recognizes conformance with the highest standards for preparation of local government financial reports. “The West Linn Finance Department had the prodigious task of completing the 2004, 2005, 2006, 2007, and 2008 audits in two years,” said City Manager Chris Jordan. “To complete this period of audit catch-up with a clean, on-time, and most likely award-winning audit is a credit to the Finance Department and City leadership who made financial transparency and reporting a top priority,” said Jordan.
