Mayor Walters Announces Resignation

WEST LINN, OR—Mayor Jules Walters, recently elected to District 37 of the Oregon House of Representatives, will resign from her position as mayor of West Linn on December 9th, 2022. Although many legislative trainings and meetings now fill up her schedule, Mayor Walters thanked the City Council, City Manager, and City Attorney in a letter:

“Thank you for the honor to serve with you and for you. I have learned from each of you, and I will carry it forward into my new role as your State Representative for House District 37. I’m proud of the new path that the city is on.”

Describing it as “an honor, joy, and privilege to serve the people of West Linn,” Mayor Walters announced her last official City Council meeting as mayor was on Monday, December 5th.

According to section 31 of West Linn’s city charter, if one or more years remain in the term of an elected official’s newly vacated office, “the vacancy shall be filled at the next available May or November election.” Because Mayor Walters has only served two years of her four-year term, city charter requires a special mayoral election to be held in May. The City Council may appoint an interim mayor to serve in the meantime.
