People of African descent have lived and worked in Oregon since before the founding of the earliest English-speaking settlements in the Americas. Despite this, the popular narrative of our state's history excludes the experiences of African Americans before the mid-20th century. This erasure is the result of historic legal and social marginalization that contributes to the ignorance of Oregon's Black heritage, as well as influences contemporary disparities in housing access, community investment, and policing. For this presentation, Oregon Black Pioneers will attempt to correct the record by highlighting key individuals and events that characterize Oregon's unique and centuries-old Black history.
This talk is presented by Mariah Rocker, Public Programs and Exhibits Manager at Oregon Black Pioneers.
Oregon Black Pioneers is Oregon’s only historical society dedicated to preserving and presenting the experiences of African Americans statewide. For more than 30 years, they have illuminated the seldom-told stories of people of African descent in Oregon through engaging exhibits, public programs, publications, and historical research.

Pokémon GO! Club | All Ages
Did you know the West Linn Public Library is a Pokémon Gym and has 3 Pokéstops located around the outside of the building? Every Wednesday during the summer, we will have a table outside where you can meet other Pokémon Go! enthusiasts, team up to battle raid bosses, and complete a route created by the librarians. We will have a lure or two set at the Pokéstops, so there will be plenty of Pokémon to catch and prizes to be had!
The library’s main parking lot now includes EV charging! Two spaces near the book drop are designated for EV charging use. These stations are Level 2 chargers.
Join Tiny Talkers for a playful and engaging class designed especially for babies and toddlers! Through songs, movement, and interactive signing activities, you’ll learn everyday signs to use at home and throughout your day. Signing helps little ones build early language and communication skills, while music and play make learning fun for everyone. Come connect, learn, and share joyful moments together!
Something is hatching at the library! Our Youth Services staff is going to be incubating and hatching chicks, with an expected hatch date in May. Join us on this journey, help us name a chick, and when the time comes enjoy sitting back and holding a chick.
We will start incubating the eggs on April 29th with an expected hatch date of May 19th.
Once things actually start hatching, you can watch all of the action on our YouTube channel: @WestLinnPublicLibrary
