VEBA

The city recognizes the enhanced benefits of tenured employees with the department as well as a common goal to assist employees with current and prospective health care benefits. In efforts to meet both objectives, the city provides a longevity incentive with contributions towards an HRA/VEBA account to individual employees. Bargaining unit employees with continuous service with the police department are eligible for the following HRA/VEBA contribution to their individual accounts:

  • 0-60 months completed $100/month
  • 61 months to 120 months completed $200/month
  • 121 months to 180 months completed $270/month

Shift Configurations

  • Shift rotations begin April 1 and October 1.
  • Sergeants and officers bid every six months, by department seniority.
  • The patrol division shares split weekends by operating on two squads:
    • Sunday through Wednesday workdays, with Thursday, Friday, and Saturday off
    • Wednesday through Saturday workdays, with Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday off
    • The overlap Wednesday provides opportunities for training, meetings, and general departmental needs.
  • Three shifts are available:
    • Days: 6:00am-4:00pm
    • Swings: 12:00 pm-10:00pm
    • Nights: 8:00pm-6:00am
  • A separate “priority bid” for vacation ensures all officers have a guaranteed, consecutive or split, if chosen, two-weeks off available to them each rotation.
