OLD BUSINESS

1. Sunset Park playground equipment improvements: A BIG Thank you was given to Carrie Hansen for her efforts. The playground equipment previously discussed and agreed to partially fund with the City picking up the majority balance has been purchased and will be installed at a near/future date. It is anticipated that the arrival date of the equipment is in February. Our $515.00 is due from our account upon arrival. Carrie will organize a volunteer day with the SNA and Ken Worcester (Park Dept.) to install the new equipment.

2. Neighborhood Plan: Chris Kerr of the City’s Planning Department introduced Steve Faust of Cogan Owens Cogan who has been selected by the SNPSC (Sunset Neighborhood Plan Steering Committee) and the City to facilitate development of a neighborhood plan for Sunset. Chris and Steve briefly described the process, schedule and intent to incorporate any approved plan into the City’s comprehensive plan. Additional participation by others was encouraged whether on the SNPSC or at public forums as the plan evolves. As of this date, the SNPSC consist of the following: Patti McCoy, John Sramek, Lara Dewey, Troy Bowers, Shauna Shroyer and Doug Vokes. Interested neighbors may contact Patti McCoy at 503-655-3445.

NEW BUSINESS

1. Summer Picnic: Doug Vokes discussed the intent/desire to have a picnic similar to last year’s successful event including having a band, food, and beverages. The picnic is anticipated to be held the third Sunday of June. The topic will be discussed at the next meeting. Doug also suggested follow up discussion on other desired park improvements like a pool modernization. Last year SNA painted the tables and shelter.

2. Sunset Primary School Task Force: Doug introduced our guests from the West Linn Wilsonville School District who were invited to discuss the recommendation to rebuild Sunset School at the Oppenlander site. Dr Roger Woehl, Superintendent, and Kathy Ludwig, Principal joined us. Dr. Woehl reviewed the overall process the District uses to get to public input when making major decisions. He also described the status of current bonding and apparent needs that can be partially addressed be replacing some of the currently retiring bond debt. Dr. Woehl then described the specific process (30 person District wide task force with Sunset School representation) and rationale used to get to the current recommendation regarding Sunset School and what the follow up process would be for determining what would get included in a proposed bond measure slated for a fall election (Bond Summit, Board work sessions, etc). There were many questions and a good deal of discussion between the audience and the guests with a much better understanding of the follow up process, some of the challenges at the current site, and of concerns with moving the school. It was asked how individuals could get involved as the process moves forward, and Dr. Woehl indicated he’d accept names for any vacancies for the upcoming Bond Summit.

ADJOURNMENT

With no further business before the SNA, the President adjourned the meeting at 9:40pm. Next meeting will be held in April 2008 Respectfully submitted by Troy Bowers, Secretary of the SNA.
