Phase 2A includes construction a mini-roundabout at the Willamette Falls Dr. and 10th Street intersection,  ADA compliant sidewalks, a protected intersection at the 10th Street and 8th Ave intersection, and a multi-use path along Salamo Rd. between 10th St. and Barrington Drive. The multi-use path along Salamo Rd. is being built within existing right-of-way and will not impact the park property.  Work is expected to continue into late Fall 2023. This project is the construction of BD1826

Status Updates

4/18/24- Striping of centerlines and fog lines along Salamo Road. Detour for downhill traffic via Greene Street. 

4/11/24- Striping of crosswalks at Greene Street and Barrington Drive.

4/4/24- Salamo Road bike path paving to take place on 4/5. One lane detour and flagging at times. 

4/1/24- Salamo Road will be closed from 10th to Greene on 4/1 and 4/2. Traffic will be flagged from Greene to Barrington Drive. 

3/27/2024- 

Salamo will be open to traffic on Saturday and Sunday.

  • Thursday (3/28)
    • Salamo Rd will be closed to traffic from 10th St to Greene St. while asphalt grinding work is performed. A detour route will be provided (see attached map). The closure will be in place from 7am to 7pm
  • Friday (3/29)
    • Salamo Rd will be restricted to one lane of traffic from Greene St to north of Barrington Dr while asphalt grinding, center island demo and minor paving work is performed. Traffic will be flagged in both directions from 7am to 7pm.

3/5/2024- On March 6th and 7th the Willamette Falls Drive and 10th Street roundabout will be closed for bike path paving from 9am to 3:30pm. Traffic should detour via 8th and 12th or 10th, 5th, and 11th.

3/1/2024- Pedestrian beacon installed at Barrington Drive. Awaiting weather window for paving and concrete repairs.

2/12/2024- Crews awaiting higher temperatures to pave bike paths. The pervious asphalt needs to be kept at a higher temperature during installation to be workable. Repairs to concrete awaiting utility removal of poles. 

12/28/2023- Work to install utility vaults continues on Salamo Rd. above Greene Street. Utilities are working on installing their cables underground on 10th Street. PGE has installed new streetlights around the roundabout. 

12/14/2023- Base paving next to new curb along Salamo Rd. Paving around Salamo Rd. and Barrington Dr. expected 12/15, weather permitting. At 10th Street, PGE crews are running new lines in the underground conduit.

12/11/2023- Staff provided an update to Council.

12/8/2023- Curb work along Salamo Road continues. PGE has begun running power lines into the underground conduit at the WFD and 10th Street intersection. Once this system is in place, PGE crews will begin installing streetlights and will then remove the old power poles. 

11/30/2023- Crews are working along Salamo to install a joint utility trench for undergrounding electrical and communications cables. Crews are installing  underground utility vaults across from Greene Street.  

11/16/2023- Night work to take place 11/19-21 at 10th Street and Salamo. The traffic light will go into standby mode and flaggers will direct traffic.

11/15/2023- Night work on Salamo Rd. on 11/16 from 9pm-6am. Salamo Rd. will be closed from Greene to the 10th Street intersection. Traffic will detour via Greene St. and Tannler Drive. Salamo Rd. will be open with flaggers on 11/17 for paving. 

11/8/2023- Striping completed in the roundabout and at 8th. Grading work continues along Salamo.

10/27/2023- Night work on 10/29 pave and pour concrete for sidewalk on the east side of 10th. 

10/24/2023- Night work at 8th Ave and 10th Street near Upper Willamette Falls Drive from 10/24-27. Crews grinding the road in preperation of paving. 

10/19/2023- Crews will be pouring sidewalks along the east side of 10th St. Traffic will be flagged around the trucks and there may be delays when traveling through the area.

10/13/2023- Starting 10/16 until 10/20 8th Avenue will be closed from 10th Street to the East driveway of Willamette Marketplace shopping center. Traffic should detour via 12th and Willamette Falls Drive. Crews are installing curb and a median. See detour map below.

10/9/2023- The roundabout at 10th Street and Willamette Falls Drive opened for traffic. Crews are working on a stormwater manhole along Salamo. 

9/29/2023- Full intersection closure of Willamette Falls Drive and 10th Street, from Sunday, October 1 at 8 am through Sunday, October 8 at 7 pm. This 24-hour a day closure may impact traffic.

9/20/2023- Beginning Monday, September 25 at 7 am through Sunday, October 8 at 7 pm, 10th Street (between Willamette Falls Drive and 8th Ave) will be closed. This closure will overlap with the full intersection closure of Willamette Falls Drive and 10th Street, which is scheduled to run from Sunday, October 1 at 9 am through Sunday, October 8 at 8 pm. This 24-hour closure may impact traffic. Please see the map below for detour routes.

9/11/2023- Sidewalk has been poured on the west side of 10th Street. Infill work continues along Salamo above Greene St. with night allowing for stormwater work within Salamo Rd. Barrington Road to be paved the week of 9/18 with access maintained throughout paving. 

8/28/2023- Road-edge curbs formed along 10th Street with forms being made for the sidewalk. Grading and earthwork continues for Salamo path. Work clearing and grading above Greene Street has started. Stormwater pipes are being installed under the path as crews work uphill from the intersection.

8/14/2023- Curbs dividing sidewalk and bike path poured around the 10th and WFD intersection's south and west sides.

8/10/2023- Removal and replacement of sidewalk ramps at Riverknoll and Barrington expected to begin 8/14.

8/7/2023- Grading along Salamo continues. Crews are removing topsoil to replace with rock base for multi-use path. Work on sidewalk sub-base at the WFD and 10th Street intersection continues. 

7/21/2023- Clearing and grubbing for Public Works Operations Facility to continue the week of 7/24. Grading of Salamo Rd. to begin after completion of clearing. 10th Street and WFD intersection subbase work to begin 7/24. Curbs to be formed the week of 7/31. 

7/17/2023- Night work to install stormwater pipe from WFD along 10th to 8th from 7/17-7/20. Clearing and grubbing work continues along Salamo. Grading expected to begin along Salamo 7/24.

7/5/2023- Night work to run storm water pipe across WFD expected to continue on the night of 7/6. Crews mobilizing to the Salamo on 7/10 and installing erosion control. Clearing and grubbing to begin on the path of the driveway to the future Public Works Facility expected to begin 7/12.   

6/29/2023- Night work on 7/5-6/23. Day work in the right-of-way to start 7/10.

6/22/2023- Joint trench work continues and is expected to be finished on July 3rd. Crews have been installing new utility vaults.

6/15/2023- Work to start on a joint utility trench underneath existing sidewalk on the South side of WFD. The trench will cross 10th Street. Please follow flagger instructions. 

6/13/2023- Work in alley to continue with adjustments.

6/8/2023- Alley paving complete. Restoration work and blending gravel shoulders finishing.

5/18/2023- Alley paving scheduled the week of May 29th.

5/10/23- Alley work continues. NW Natural has begun night work to relocate gas mains at the intersection of 10th and Willamette Falls Drive.

4/25/23- Expected start date of work in right-of-way is 5/15.

4/19/23- Tree work beginning for the alleyway on 4/27. 

4/13/23- City Council Approved contract for improvements at their 3/13/23 Meeting
