Evaluation of existing established Safe Routes to Schools plan, identify potential projects to improve the pedestrian network for each included school, and prioritize the highest benefit projects based on cost effectiveness. This project is being coordinated with the School District.

Status Updates

3/12/24- Staff presented design at RNA meeting.

1/25/24- New map from consultants. Community walk to discuss the plan at 4:30pm on 2/1/24 meeting outside Robinwood Station. Plan will also be presented at the 2/13 RNA meeting.

7/17/23- Cedaroak sidewalk design revisions ongoing.

6/13/23- Presentation to Robinwood Neighborhood Association on Cedaroak sidewalk.

9/21/22- Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) installed at Hidden Springs and Suncrest Dr. 

4/23/21 - Work to install 4 new ADA compliant curb ramps at the intersection of Hidden Springs rd and Suncrest dr has begun. 

3/1/2021 - Hidden Springs at Suncreset Crossing Improvements will include 4 new ADA compliant curb ramps and new Rectangular Rapid-Flashing Beacons (RRFBs).  Construction is expected to be completed by mid May. 

1/26/2021 - Design for Hidden Springs at Sunscrest Crossing Improvement is in final stages.  

10/31/2020 - Design work for sidewalk infill for Sunset Primary safe route is in progress. 

9/16/2020 - Design work for sidewalk improvements along Cedaroak drive is in progress.

8/3/2020- Surveying work for sidewalk impovements at Cedaroak Primary is complete. 

8/1/2020 - Crossing improvements for Bolton Primary at Buck st and Holmes st have been completed.

7/1/2020-Preliminary surveying work for crossing improvements at the intersection of Suncrest Dr. and Hidden Springs Rd has begun.  Improvements will include new curb ramps and pedestrian crossing treatments. 

6/20/2020 - Preliminary surveying work for sidewalk improvements at Cedaroak Primary and Sunset Primary has been initiated.  

5/20/2020 - Pre-marking supplies have been ordered for the Bolton Primary School location and will be applied once weather warms. Staff will meet on 5/26 to begin planning for additional project locations. 

3/23/2020 - Staff is preparing plans to move forward with the first Safe Routes project which is planned for Bolton Primary. Improvements include new crossing and signage at the intersection of Buck St. and Holmes St. Project is scheduled for late May or early June.

3/11/2020 - Public Works Director/City Engineer met with the Willamette Neighborhood Association to provide a project update. The NA provided feedback in support of the current prioritization list which attached below. 

2/04/2020 - Project has resumed. City staff is reaching out to Neighhborhood Associations to provide update on project prioritization and receive community feedback.

12/09/2019 - Project on hold and will resume after the first of January (2020).

9/5/2019 - Transportation Advisory Board reviewed Safe Route project list on 7/24/2019 and made unanimous recommendation to prioritize the following school routes: Cedaroak, Rosemont, and Trillium. Meeting notes can be found here.

7/9/2019 - City staff met with the Robinwood Neighborhood Association on Tuesday, July 9th at 7pm at the Robinwood Station to discuss Safe Routes to School plans for Cedaroak Park Primary School.

6/18/2019 - City staff met with the Hidden Springs Neighborhood Association on Tuesday, June 18th at 7pm at the Adult Community Center to discuss Safe Routes to School plans for Trillium Creek Primary School.

6/14/2019 - City staff emailed four of the six neighborhood associations - Bolton NA, Parker Crest NA, Sunset NA, and Willamette NA - about setting up meetings to discuss proposed safe routes to school and project lists in their respective neighborhoods.

5/15/2019 - City staff participated in Walk and Bike to School Day at Rosemont Ridge Middle School by helping to hand out prizes to students who walked or biked to school. See an article about the event on the District's website. City staff also met with School District staff to discuss further coordination efforts between the District and City to expand education and outreach opportunities at West Linn schools.

5/3/2019 - City staff emailed six neighborhood associations - Bolton NA, Robinwood NA, Parker Crest NA, Sunset NA, Hidden Springs NA, and Willamette NA - about setting up meetings to discuss proposed safe routes to school and project lists in their respective neighborhoods. This email led to meetings with the Hidden Springs NA (6/18/2019) and Robinwood NA (7/9/2019).

4/15/2019 - Consultant DKS presented results of Safe Routes to School Evaluation and Planning project to City Council at the Work Session (materials uploaded to project files). Council directed staff to perform more outreach to School PTAs and City Neighborhood Associations to refine list of priority projects.

4/10/2019 - Lance Calvert Public Works Director attended the Willamette Neighborhood Association meeting and provided general updates regarding Transportation GO Bond projects. Lance informed the group that the Safe Routes Project would be presented to Council on April 15th and encouraged residents to attend or watch on television. 

3/20/2019 - Project evaluation results, open house feedback, and preliminary cost estimates were presented to the Transportation Advisory Board. Board members voted to have the City pursue grant funding sources and pursue additional feedback from neighborhoods and parent-teacher organizations. Project information will be presented to the City Council at the April 15th Work Session. 

1/29/2019 - City and School District held an open house at Trillium Creek Primary School for students, parents, teachers, and community members to provide input on recommended safe routes. 

1/08/2019 - DKS has developed a preliminary list of projects and cost estimates. An open house is planned for the night of January 29, 2019 at Trillium Creek Primary School for the public to comment on proposed safe routes and priority projects. Stay tuned to the City's newsletter and social media for more information.

11/13/2018 - DKS Associates is refining the draft plans and compiling preliminary project prioritization and cost estimates.

10/16/2018 - Consultant is developing draft plan revisions.

9/04/2018 - Work Order issued to DKS Associates to begin evaluation and planning efforts for Trillium Primary, Sunset Primary, and Rosemont Ridge schools.
