Willamette NA Minutes July 9, 2008 The meeting was called to order by President Beth Kieres at 7:05 in the Willamette Methodist Church. After introductions, minutes of the June meeting were read and approved. The treasury balance is $2,807.90 with recent checks written as follows: $3205. to Mollet Printing for the Walking Guide books and $462. for pavers in the median strips of WF Drive. $462 has been reimbursed by the City. Police report: Officer Boyle reminded us all to close our garage doors at night bec of frequent and easy theft. On Friday 7/11 police from various areas in Clackamas Co will focus on traffic in West Linn. This one day effort is organized through the Sheriff’s office and funded through special grants to calm traffic. Fire Dept report: TVFR concerns focus on wild fires in this hot dry weather. Tall dry grass should be cut back. Water safety has been another concern because of hot weather tempting swimmers in cold water temps and swift currents. Construction should begin in December ’08 on their new building. Housing for firemen will be nearby. They requested no parking along the curb nearest the station because they need space for their boat and towing rig to exit in a hurry. Pacific West Bank in Willamette Marketplace has a community room for meetings. Beth will inquire if we might use it next year for our monthly meetings. She thinks there will be no charge. Buffalo Zoebel reported on activities in Fields Bridge Park. New bridge construction will begin next summer with a time line of 18 mos to 3 years. Dollar Street will be the staging area for equipment. The community gardens will be relocated west and the farmhouse demolished. A crosswalk from the Cove to the trail head may include an island as a traffic calming device. The meteorite stone outlooks have been an in-house project for the Parks Dept. They hope to have them finished by the end of July with volunteer help. Centennial report: This weekend is the street dance and ballgame. Les Schwab is loaning a popcorn machine for Sunday’s ballgame. A big banner is hanging across WF Drive and a sign posted saying the street will close from 2pm to 12 midnight. Historic District report: Ruth is handing out notice to all area residents affected. Plans are to have a new consultant finish the application which will be presented to the national board next March. Planning report: A Holiday Inn application may be coming to the WNA in August. A 3 story building with 20-25 rooms is proposed. Observers are needed for the pre-ap meetings. This would involve a Thursday morning. Willamette flower beds: This Saturday 7/12 is cleanup day. Tarra and Jen from the Parks Dept have been terrific helpers and organizers. West Linn Old Fashioned Fair Parade: July 18 is the parade with Harold Gross as Grand Marshall.
