Equipment failure caused a pipe leading to a pressure gauge to freeze at the Horton Reservoir. As a result, sufficient water to fill the reservoir was not maintained, resulting in pressure loss. As a precaution, residents in the Horton Pressure Zone should boil water until further notice. Crews are flushing the system and taking water samples to the lab for analysis. Test results are expected in 24-48 hours, but may be impacted by the ice storm. Once results come back clear the notice will be lifted.

Press Release

The Rosemont Pressure Zone did not experience equipment failure and that zone maintained pressure and is not impacted by the boil water notice.

What happen? A piece of ice clogged a small copper pipe in the Horton Reservoir. That clog caused a gauge to miss-read the water levels in the reservoir, leading to the Horton Reservoir emptying, despite a gauge reading normal water levels. Working gauges at the Rosemont Reservoir, showed falling water levels in that zone, leading crews to believe their was an un-located main break. Upon inspecting the system, crews discovered that the issue at the Horton Reservoir. No water from the Horton Reservoir had made it to the Rosemont Reservoir because of the gauge malfunction and how the system read it. Out of an abundance of caution and because gauge readings from the Horton Pressure Zone were affected. The City issued a boil water notice, until random samples of water from the zone have been lab tested and the results are clear.
