November's Spice is Caraway Seeds! Pickup begins November 1st, 2025 at 10:00 AM throughout the month of November, while supplies last.
Join us for our West Linn Public Library Spice Club. Cooking enthusiasts and novices alike may stop by the library and pick up a Spice Club Kit, which includes a spice sampling and recipes. Participants are asked to use the spice in their cooking at home, and can use the recipes provided to them, find a new recipe online, or replace a spice in a favorite recipe.
Kits will be distributed on a first come first serve basis, and will be located next to the Information Desk on the first floor.
From the vendor:
"Baharat tastes smoky, sweet, and warm.
Baharat simply means “spices” in Arabic and was named because it became ubiquitous to the cultures ringing the Mediterranean, from the Levant to northern Africa. Every region has its preferred blend; Turkey often includes mint in their blends, while rose petals make their way into blends in Egypt.
While Baharat is traditionally associated with the Mediterranean, it can be found in other surprising places. When Federal Donuts, a lunch counter and donut shop with multiple locations across Philadelphia, released its master donut recipe, we learned that Baharat was the signature spice that has defined their donuts since their opening in 2011.
