The library offers 3D printing on two Prusa printers!  You can find ready-made files for all types of objects on Thingiverse or design your own using Tinkercad (on the computers in the Makerspace), SketchUp, or another 3D modeling program.

Please note, models with intricate details or moving parts don't always come out as precise as expected. Simpler models produce the best results.

Submitting a 3D print request online:

  1. Please read the guidelines below, then go to our Google Form and fill it out completely to have your print submitted online.  We will contact you if we find a problem with the file you have uploaded.
  2. You will be notified when your job is finished.  Often the size of our 3D printing queue means that we will not get to a newly submitted print for a few weeks and the process can take several work days from start to finish  Thank you for being patient with us!
  3. You’ll have 14 days to pick up your print.  Objects not picked up will become property of the library.
  4. Payment is due when the job is picked up.

Submitting a 3D print request in person:

  1. Read the guidelines below.
  2. Find an object on Thingiverse or build your own using a 3D design program.
  3. Save the .stl file(s) to a USB flash drive. You can borrow a USB drive for this at the Youth Services desk. Be sure that your print job is the only thing on the USB drive.
  4. Complete a 3D Print Submission Form, available at the Youth Services desk (it is also attached at the bottom of this page).
  5. Bring flash drive and form to the Youth Services desk.
  6. You will be notified when your job is finished.  Often the size of our 3D printing queue means that we will not get to a newly submitted print for a few weeks and the process can take several work days from start to finish  Thank you for being patient with us!

  8. Payment is due when the job is picked up.

Guidelines:

  • Patrons must have a library card in good standing.
  • Requests will generally be printed in the order in which they were received when staff is available to operate the printer. Slight adjustments to the queue will be made to maximize efficiency.
  • Patrons may have only one active file at a time.
  • We print primarily with PLA filament in a variety of colors, but if you have your own filament, we might be able to print with what you bring us.  Results will vary.
  • Our Prusas' build platform is 8.3 inches square and can print to a height of 9.8 inches.
  • If an object is too large, it will be scaled down unless the original size has been specifically requested.  If we cannot accommodate the specifics of a request, you will be informed.
  • Additional printing attempts will be offered for objects that fail to print due to hardware failure. We cannot issue refunds for dissatisfaction with color, scale, quality, design, or other options selected by patrons.
  • We cannot print objects that are:
    • Prohibited by local, state or federal law.
    • Unsafe, harmful, dangerous or poses an immediate threat to the well-being of others.
    • Obscene or otherwise inappropriate for the library environment.
    • In violation of another’s intellectual property rights. For example, the printer will not be used to reproduce material subject to copyright, patent or trademark protection.
  • The library reserves the right to refuse any 3D print request.
  • Printing may occur within public view.
