Teen Summer Volunteering

find your voice

We're seeking anyone entering the 9th through 12th grade in the fall who would like to help staff our Summer Reading Program kiosk!  Volunteers will sign people up for our Summer Reading Program and enter finishers' data as they complete our reading challenges and collect their prizes.  So if you're looking to help out at the library, collect some volunteer hours before the fall, and get kids excited about reading, sign up now!

Our teen summer volunteer schedule is all self-directed, so here are a few tips for success!

  • Make sure you will be available for all the shifts you sign up for!  This might seem like common sense, but we know that the summer can get busy and you don't want to realize too late you're scheduled during a time you'll be out of town.
  • If you can't make a shift you signed up for, be sure to cancel it via the link in the confirmation or reminder email.  This makes it so that someone else can sign up!
  • If you have any questions, feel free to contact us at the Youth Services desk by calling (503) 742-8623.  If you need to leave a message, make sure you give us your name and a good number to call you back.
  • When you arrive for your shift, just check in with us at the Youth Services desk and if you're new to the process, we'll get you acquainted with the task!
  • Wear comfortable, school appropriate clothes.  It can get a little chilly in the AC over the summer, so bring a sweatshirt just in case!
  • You are welcome to bring a book or class work if you have it, but we ask that you refrain from wearing headphones while staffing the kiosk.
  • Sometimes if we're all caught up with entering patron data, we'll ask you to help with other small tasks like stuffing packets or folding flyers.
