Book Donations
The library welcomes donations of books, audiobooks, CDs, DVDs, and Blu-ray discs for all ages. Please make sure items are in good condition (no missing covers, ripped pages, water damage, mold, etc.).
We cannot accept:
- Magazines
- Encyclopedias
- Dictionaries
- Thesauruses
- Textbooks
- Cassettes
- VHS
- Items for the Library of Things
Items not added to the collection will be donated to the West Linn Library Foundation to be sold in the Book Nook used bookstore.
Donations may be dropped off at the Check-Out Desk on the main floor during library hours. Please do not put donations in the book drop. Due to space limitations, we can only accept three bags or boxes per person, per day. The Book Nook may be able to accept larger donations with advanced notice. Please email wlplbooknook@gmail.com with questions about larger donations.
If you wish to recycle old books that the library can’t accept, you can find a place to take them by visiting Metro's website.
Book Donations by Local Authors
Every attempt is made to acquire titles by local authors and of regional interest that are produced by mainstream publishers and reviewed favorably in library resources. Occasionally, the Library will consider self-published works that have local interest or contain unique content.
The library receives numerous requests from authors to add their books to our collection. Librarians use the same selection criteria for purchase recommendations and donations that we use for general collection development. These criteria include, but are not limited to:
- Positive reviews in professional sources such as Library Journal, School Library Journal, Kirkus Reviews, Booklist, and Publisher's Weekly.
- Physical format and suitability for library use.
- Quality content and presentation.
- Relevance to the needs and wants of the community.
For more information, see our Collection Management Policy.
Please note, we are not able to meet with individual authors due to staffing constraints. Unfortunately, we cannot accept review copies or follow up if a book is not selected for the collection because of the number of submissions we receive.
The library may remove donated materials added to our collection and items purchased with financial donations when staff have deemed that they are no longer relevant, useful, or in good condition.
