Haiku Challenge
Calendar Date:
Add to your calendar:
Grades 5-12
April 1 - April 30
Celebrate National Poetry Month by writing a haiku or two! The challenge is open to anyone in grades 5-12 and runs the entire month of April.
Entries must be received by April 30 for the chance to be featured in our newsletters and perhaps win a prize.
HOW DO YOU HAIKU? A haiku is a 3-line poem that does NOT need to rhyme. They are usually about nature, and feature our senses, but for this challenge, they can be about anything. The most defining aspect of a haiku is its structure. The number of syllables in each line is crucial:
First line: 5 syllables
Second line: 7 syllables
Third line: 5 syllables
We hope you take a minute to write a haiku and share it with us! All entries should be submitted to anewman@westlinnoregon.gov or turned in to the Youth Services desk.
