Celebrate National Poetry Month by creating a blackout poem or writing a haiku or two! Supplies will be in the Young Teen and Teen rooms at the library.
HOW DO YOU HAIKU? A haiku is a 3-line poem that does NOT need to rhyme. They are usually about nature, and feature our senses, but for this challenge, they can be about anything. The most defining aspect of a haiku is its structure. The number of syllables in each line is crucial:
First line: 5 syllables
Second line: 7 syllables
Third line: 5 syllables
An example from one of our very own city employees:
I desire to
be eased into summer like
a slowly boiled frog
We hope you take a minute to create a poem and share it with us!
