Tween Volunteer Program

Hand reaching for books

Please check back in June to sign up for our Summer Tween Volunteer session.

Any middle school students (grades 6-8) looking to volunteer at the library, but are too young for the regular volunteer program, are welcome to apply to become a Tween Volunteer.

The responsibilities of Tween Volunteer are to help keep our Youth Services department tidy and organized for our patrons! Tween Volunteers will straighten shelves, dust and clean shelves and windowsills, search for lost books and DVDs, shelf read to make sure everything is in order, and even choose books for display! Volunteers that have proven to be responsible and steady will have the opportunity to do special projects for our youth librarians.

Expectations

In many ways, volunteers are like staff members. We expect that you will work in a manner that reflects positively on our library. As a representative of the library, you should work steadily and in a respectful manner. Tween volunteers are expected to follow staff dress and behavior codes, and should treat this as if it was a paying job. You are expected to be on time, and to communicate with your supervisor if you can't make it to a shift.

Physical Requirements

We require that volunteers have the physical requirements necessary to properly complete tasks without staff assistance. These may include bending, squatting, reaching, and pushing a cart filled with books. If you have vision that requires eyeglasses or contact lenses, we ask that you wear these while working at the library.
