Parks & Recreation Month

2025

2025 Theme:

"Build Together, Play Together"

Parks & Recreation Month is a national observance held every July to celebrate and highlight the vital role that parks, recreation programs, and the professionals who manage them play in building strong, vibrant, and resilient communities. Established in 1985 by the National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA), this month recognizes the importance of parks for health, wellness, social connection, and quality of life across the United States.

During Parks & Recreation Month, cities and communities nationwide host special events, activities, and programs—such as outdoor movie nights, art contests, and fitness classes—to encourage people of all ages to enjoy their local parks and appreciate the benefits these spaces provide. The celebration also honors the work of park and recreation professionals and promotes inclusive, accessible spaces where everyone can connect, play, and thrive.
