The Yasui Family From “Stubborn Twig” To Participate in Panel Discussion and Documentary Viewing at West Linn Public Library
“Stubborn Twig” is the Oregon Reads Selection for 2009
WEST LINN –The Yasui family, subject of this year’s West Linn Reads and Oregon Reads book selection “Stubborn Twig,” by Lauren Kessler, will participate in a free documentary viewing and panel discussion at the West Linn Public Library in the Community Room on Monday, February 23 at 6:00 p.m.
The Academy Award nominated documentary “A Family Gathering” will be shown; the documentary is directed by Lise Yasui, Masuo Yasui’s granddaughter. The documentary explores the effects of the WWII internment camp experience on the entire Yasui family.
Following the short film, Joan Yasui Emerson (Masuo’s granddaughter), along with Lewis and Clark anthropology professor Linda Isako Angst and West Linn High School social studies teacher Clark Hoss, will participate in a panel discussion and question-and-answer session. Tickets are required for seating in the Community Room. The movie will also be shown in the main Reading Room of the library, where there will be open seating.
