WFHAC designation
Thank you for the post, the neighborhood most recently approved a letter endorsing the WFHAC quest for the national designation of the area. We hope it happens.
West Linn
I just wanted to say I recently visited West Linn and it was a gorgeous place to visit. I had a great time and the people were very polite and easy to talk too. Thanks for letting me share.
Willamette Falls National Heritage Designation
I would like to suggest to the neighorhood that when it provides input to the council about 2012 goals that you give some consideration to promoting the goal of making the Falls area a national heritge designation. While we have all heard many responses as to what makes West Linn unique, the only thing that is truly unique to us is the Willamette Falls which we share with Oregon City. The council might incorporate into its existing Goal #3 (Comp. Plan/Community vision) the promotion of getting the Falls designated as a national heritage area. The Willamette Falls Heritage Area Coalition (a non - profit corporation with the two cities, county, a tribe and numerous non profits as well as PGE and others at the table) is working hard toward obtaining that designation. There is a great deal of heritage in our area from tribal gatherings at the Falls; first settlement of the northwest territory, first govt. of the territory; end of one of the biggest migrations ever (Oregon trail); first electric transmission; Hudson Bay/McLaughlin connection; Lewis & Clark connection; Historic Willamette district; 138 year old locks; to name only a few, all things which have a connection to the Falls. Many of our own residents have little knowledge of all this. A national designation along with the possibility that Metro's bid might be succeeful in acquiring the Blue Heron mill will make the Falls area a once in a life time opportunity to put Oregon City & West Linn on the state and national map for the benefit of locals as well as visitors. The possibility for obtaining access to the Falls, to highlighting the many heritage gems in the area, and further restoration of historic buildings would all contribute greatly to economic development (jobs & increased business activity). A national designation has no regulatory aspect to it at all. Further, if the county sewer districts are successful in thier bid to acquire the West Linn portion of the Blue Heron property, the city and the Council will be intensely involved with a piece of the Falls area any way. To learn more about the effort to obtain the fedaral desgnation, google "Willamette Falls Heritage Area Coalition". Thank you for the opportunity to post. Jim Mattis

Willamette Living History Tour 2009
Planning is already underway for the 2009 Willamette Living History Lantern Light Tour. In fact, most of the volunteers from the 2008 edition have already contacted Danny Schreiber to renew their commitment to this year’s tour. The tour will be taking place on Saturday, September 19, 2009 starting at 7pm. The tour will be very similar to the 2008 version, but here are a few areas where we could use some help.
1) Ticket Sales –
*We’d like to start selling tickets at the Old Time Fair. Willamette Neighborhood Association will have a booth there. It would be great if we could have a costumed volunteer at the booth at every shift (if possible).
*We still need to decide on ticket prices. Last year it was $10 a ticket or $25 per family. One suggested price, was $15 a ticket for adults, and $10 for kids under 18. We are open to suggestion or input on that. Remember, we sold out two weeks in advance in 2008, but who knows what will happen this year.
2) Non-Actor Volunteers - We really need help with a number of areas this year in pre-production especially. Here are a few people that are needed:
*Publicity/Communications – this can be a committee or an individual to help make/distribute posters, signs, news articles, door-to-door announcements, etc.
* Casting/Volunteer Coordination – While many people have already responded to being a part once again, I know we do have a number of open roles. Last year, we had a handful of roles that had to be filled last minute. We need a person or committee to help recruit folks to help.
* Costume Coordination – Someone or a committee to distribute and collect costumes for each role. Many folks already have their own, but last year many costumes were not returned and some may have been lost. Nicole Schreiber will work with this person or group to find appropriate attire for each scene.
* Traffic Control – We need someone to coordinate the street closure with the city, notify the residents and businesses, and execute the actual closing and removing of all modern vehicle on the day of the tour.
* Locations/Scene – I still need to secure all of the locations once again. We will not be able to start at Dinners Done Right since they are no longer in business. We will be able to use Lavender Bleu for the conclusion. Everything in between is in question. We need a person or committee to contact every location from last year and see what we can and cannot use this year. If changes are needed, this person can help implement those changes.
2) Parade – We would like to have an entry in the Old Time Fair Parade again this year. Therefore we need as many people as possible to dress in costume to walk the parade route, pass out flyers, carry signs announcing the tour, (and maybe some suffragettes can carry some home made protest signs. A list of people who are available would be a great start.
I am keeping a master list of all people who are interested in participating this year. If anyone wants to take on any of the above tasks, please give me the name, phone number, and email address (as well as the task they are interested in).
I would like to schedule a brief meeting the week of July 13th to talk about some of these items and get the ball rolling on these things. Please let me know a location and time that works for everyone.
Thanks,
Danny

Dear Willamette Volunteers,
