It is the City’s policy to permit chickens as household pets. Keep in mind that raising chickens for commercial purposes is prohibited in the majority of the residential areas of the City. If chickens are proposed to be kept as household pets, they are permitted, subject to the nuisance regulations (noise, odors, etc) of Section 5.400 et. seq. of the West Linn Municipal Code. City policy states that poultry can be defined as a ‘household pet’ provided that all of the following are met:
- No more than five poultry are permitted.
- The poultry are kept in the house or surrounding yard during the day and in an enclosed pen at night within or adjacent to the house.
- Roosters are not permitted.
- The poultry are not raised for human consumption.
- The eggs produced by the poultry are not sold for commercial gain.
- The occupants of the resident exhibit a general standard of care toward the poultry similar to that used with other household pets such as dogs and cats.
