The West Linn Public Library will host an exhibit featuring the work of Ellen Smith during the month of September. The exhibit will run September 4-28 in the library's Community Room which is open to the public when not in use, and always open on Sundays, noon – 5:00 p.m. It is a good idea to call ahead to check if the room is being used before coming to see the art (503-656-7853). Ellen Smith started making fabric baskets after being inspired by Barbara Warholic's book Sewing Pottery by Machine. Her baskets are made with rope that is covered with fabric then sewn together. She also uses discarded knobs, hooks, buttons, or twigs for lid handles.
