WEST LINN – Council President John Kovash was nominated for appointment to the vacant West Linn mayor position at tonight’s special City Council meeting. His nomination was approved by a vote of 4-0 (Councilors Burgess, Carson, Cummings, and Kovash unanimously supported his appointment). Council President Kovash will be formally appointed mayor on May 10, 2010 at the scheduled City Council meeting. Council President Kovash indicated that he will run in the September special election that is required to fill the vacant mayor position for the remainder of the term, which runs through December 31, 2012.
The City Council also narrowed the list of 26 applicants down to six applicants to interview on Thursday night to fill the vacancy that is created by Council President Kovash’s anticipated appointment. The six applicants who will be interviewed on Thursday are: Karen Hensley, Mike Jones, Jim Mattis, Bob McCarthy, Tom Neff, and Curt Sommer. Interviews will begin at 7:00 p.m. at West Linn City Hall.
