The Willamette Historic District is designated locally, and, as of the fall of 2009, is designated as a National Register Historic District. The local Willamette Historic District has been in place for over 20 years and is comprised of over 75 properties. The nationally designated Willamette Historic District is comprised solely of residential properties and has slightly different boundaries. A map with these boundaries is available below.
The National Register designation of the Willamette Historic District is the result of a multi-year effort by the City of West Linn, the Historic Resources Advisory Board, the Willamette Neighborhood Association, and many dedicated citizens.
A historic district is an area or neighborhood that has a concentration of buildings and associated landscape and streetscape features (50 years or older) that retains a high degree of historic character and integrity, and represents an important aspect of a city's history.
