Calendar Date:Monday, June 6, 2011 - 7:00pm
The West Linn Garden Club and the West Linn Public Library will jointly present "Pots, Plants, and Garden Art: Getting it All Together," a slide show and talk by Mike Darcy on Monday, June 6, at 7:00 pm. Darcy’s presentation will be a tour of different gardens he has visited and how these gardens have incorporated pots and plants along with garden art. Mike Darcy is the host of KXL's radio show "In The Garden With Mike Darcy." The program is free and open to the public Darcy’s interest in gardening began when he was in high school in Tucson. He started working at a nursery to earn some pocket money and loved it so much that he entered the University of Arizona as a horticulture major. In 1967 he took a job with the Ortho Division of Chevron which brought him to Portland. In 1981 he started his garden show on KXL and has been doing it ever since. Darcy helped transform a vacant lot in Lake Oswego into Prestwick Park. He also started the annual Plant Nerd Night, a plant sale held every year in March for which people will often line up hours ahead of time. He has done TV garden programs for OPB, KPTV, and KATU, and he writes a column called "What I'm Hearing" for Digger, the trade magazine for the Oregon Association of Nurseries. This event is co-sponsored with the West Linn Garden Club.
