Join us for an evening of lively music as fiddler Kevin Burke and guitarist Cal Scott perform a mix of Irish tunes. UPDATE: Sorry, all the tickets for this concert are gone! Kevin Burke is an Irish fiddler who has lived in Portland for the last 30 years. His early days were spent with the Bothy Band in the 70s, then with the Irish group Patrick Street in the 80s and also with the group Celtic Fiddle Festival. In 2002, he was awarded a National Heritage Fellowship by the National Endowment for the Arts for his artistic excellence and contributions to the field. It is this country's top honor for a folk artist. Cal Scott is a composer, arranger, and producer who has written scores for TV series, children's videos, commercials, and more than 30 PBS documentaries and specials. He has played a variety of music and a variety of instruments over the years, including bass, brass, and guitar. He writes and performs with The Trail Band, with whom he has also co-produced a number of CDs. Burke and Scott met while working on a documentary about Northern Ireland. They enjoyed working together so much that they collaborated to produce "Across the Black River," which includes original compositions, traditional Irish music, and even bluegrass. The New York Times listed it as one of the top notable world music releases of 2007.
