WEST LINN - The City of West Linn, with SWCA Environmental Consultants, completed a historic resource survey of 250 properties in the Willamette neighborhood built in 1965 or earlier and supplemented a previous survey with information on accessory structures on 44 properties in the Willamette Historic District.
The updates to the previously surveyed properties included information on garages, sheds, chicken coops, and greenhouses, with garages as the most prevalent. Over 20 percent of the structures surveyed dated from the 1920s. The earliest, typically in the Willamette Historic District, dated from the 1890s. Ranch and Craftsman were the most common architectural styles with 78 and 58 structures surveyed, respectively. The survey is available online.
The project’s purpose was to identify buildings that may have historical significance to the City and to supplement existing historic resource surveys. The new information on the properties has been added to the City’s historic resource inventory and will be added to the Oregon Historic Sites Database. Partial funding of the project is through a Certified Local Government grant from the State Historic Preservation Office with Federal funds from the National Park Service, U.S. Department of the Interior.
