Press release date: Fri Aug 17th, 2012
City of West Linn Oregon Official Website

WEST LINN – In October of 2010 the Parks & Recreation Department started a Haunted Trail for the community at the prompting of local teens. In October of 2011 over 1000 people attended the West Linn Parks & Recreation haunted Trail at Mary S. Young Park. The event is comprised of a Trail of Terror and an Enchanted Trail for those of a younger age. With local partner West Linn Rotary, the event also has a bonfire, games, events, and concessions onsite.

This year the West Linn Parks and Recreation and their partners are seeking West Linn’s most inspired, humorous, creepy, and peculiar families, businesses, organizations and clubs to compete for cash prizes for the best Halloween scenes during the Haunted Trail Event at Mary S. Young Park in October. Proposals will be accepted until September 21 and six scene finalists will be selected and notified by September 26. The scene selection committee will include representatives of the West Linn Parks and Recreation Department, volunteers, and West Linn Rotary.

The Haunted Trail is open two nights, Friday October 26 and Saturday October 27 during the hours of 7:00 – 10:00 p.m. Cash awards will be presented to the top three scenes: $400 for the 1st place favorite, $250 for 2nd place, and $100 for 3rd. Winners will be selected by an independent committee not associated with the contestants or sponsors. Originality, quality of set design, interpretation of theme, and overall presentation will be the criteria for scoring of the final six at the event.

In addition to cash awards, the top three winners will have their photo in the West Linn Tidings and on the City of West Linn web site. The 1st place winner will receive a basket of products and gift cards by the event sponsors and be automatically accepted back in 2013 to defend their title.
