Neighbors Helping Neighbors

City of West Linn Oregon Official Website

Next NHN event: 9/15/12.  See you then!

NHN was a huge success on Saturday, September 17, 2011. Over 350 volunteers turned out to help their neighbors in need. 29 homes were transformed. Incredibly, 243 cubic yards of debris were collected in just three hours of work!

Neighbors Helping Neighbors is a city-wide event that is transforming the lives of people, young and old alike.  You too can participate for a cost of only three hours one Saturday morning.

This community clean-up event helps fellow neighbors who are in need and cannot physically or financially care for their own yards:

* Those over 70 years of age;
* People with limited mobility;
* Military spouses with partners currently serving overseas;
* Neighbors with other critical financial or physical needs.

We are currently organizing volunteers to help those in need with a variety of yard services.

Sign up now. Your help is needed. There are more than 35 home owners in West Linn who are in need and more than 300 volunteers are needed.

* Bring the kids. Children as young as two have participated in NHN.
* Sign up with a group from your office. There is hardly a better way to boost moral and bond with your colleagues.
* Come with your whole sports team. It's a great way to build team spirit and represent.
* Come by yourself. What a great way to meet someone new and interesting!

Just join in to help others in need and give back to this great community we all call home.

Individuals must live within the West Linn city limits in order to receive these services.

To volunteer or to recommend a person in need, please fill out the forms below or email bsaladino@westlinnoregon.gov. The forms may be printed and mailed in or filled in online with the links below.

Thank-yous from recipients and volunteers:

"I'm overcome.  The front of my house looks like it used to many years ago.  I am so grateful.  Bless their hearts.  This kind of thing has never happened to me in all the years I've lived here, until now.  I'm just delighted to thank you." - 92 year-old Recipient

"My mom is elderly and not able to attend to her yard anymore.  NHN is truly a wonderful service.  The volunteers who worked in the yard did an amazing job and went beyond our expectations.  We feel so blessed and thank you to everyone for their hard work and time.  There are not enough words to express how grateful we are for this wonderful group." - Recipient

"Thank you for including me in the Neighbors Helping Neighbors program.  It has made such a difference in my home and yard - the helpers who came to do the work were so friendly and caring, I cannot praise them enough.  They worked hard over three hours and listened to my needs.  Thanks again!" - Recipient

"I wish to thanks the City of West Linn staff and citizen volunteers for the extraordinary job they did cleaning up my yard. I have been ill and housebound and my yard was much neglected.  Because of NHN, I now have the best looking yard in my neighborhood! I especially want to thank the young people who gave up their Saturday morning.  West Linn is certainly a great place to live." - Recipient

"I can't tell you how grateful I am to have so many problems removed from my yard.  For years I have hoped and prayed that I would be able to afford to have someone come in to do the work that I am unable to do.  I will never forget the happiness I feel because of the wonderful people who worked here that day." - Recipient

"Thank you for the wonderful people you sent to help me. They changed the whole look of my yard. I can’t thank you enough for taking such good care of me. I appreciate it SO very much!" - Recipient

"Thank you for giving our company an opportunity to give a little back." - Partner Organization

"NHN was the highlight of our family's weekend!  The homeowner we helped was so sweet, so appreciative.  'And it isn't even my birthday' when we planted the mums.  'I haven't been hugged for such a long time.'  The social interaction was as satisfying as transforming the yard." - Volunteer

"This, I'm sure, won't be the last report you receive from a grateful volunteer.  The wonderful couple whose yard we had the opportunity to clean were amazing people. They truly had a need and through NHN their needs were certainly met. My little family was able to serve along side a wonderful family where an amazing bond was formed as we set aside our own interests and simply worked together to serve someone in need. My heart was touched and I am looking forward to the next NHN event with anticipation. In the mean time, I hope we will all carry on the tone you have set continuously serving our neighbors." - Volunteer

"My family had a really great experience working with our awesome team on Saturday. We made a good connection with the homeowner, and are actually going to help her out with some dog walking." - Volunteer

"Just wanted to tell you how awesome this day was! My family and I are proud to have been involved." - Volunteer
