Music in the Park - Swingline Cubs

swinglinelg.jpg
Swingin' since 1983, the band was christened the "Swingline Cubs" by a bartender in a rare moment in history. But no professional organization, even those specializing in a "good time," can get very far without responsible business practices. This is what separates the Cubs from the rest of the pack. The Swingline Cubs offer clients a full-service office and a full-time manager dedicated to the fulfillment of band and clients' needs. This means timely contacts, calls, contracts, mailings, and accounting. Wedding and event resources, event advice, referrals, and other services are routine. This band pays its "office dues", which translates into better band business. The Swingline Cubs treat every engagement as if it were the biggest day in their clients' lives... because it often is!

The Cubs are still Portland's premier Variety Band for Wedding Receptions and Corporate events. Swing, Jazz, R&B, Disco, Rock and Roll have been our trademark for years and we love them all.

“With this band...somehow it always seems like New Years Eve...”
- Portland After Dark

“I knew I wanted this band for my wedding before I knew who my fiancee was going to be... but don't tell him.”
- anonymous bride

Michkael Baker - Vocals
Michkael has lived his entire life in the Pacific Northwest. He has performed with Tarshene in the popular Northwest band Body and Soul and as an actor in "Chorus Line," "Godspell," and other stage productions. His voice can be heard in numerous commercials for Nike, Hewlett-Packard, and other local companies. An accomplished dancer as well... Look for Michkael and Tarshene to tear up the stage with some great dance routines.

Tarshene Daugherty - Vocals
We're excited about the addition of Tarshene to the Cubs. Her entertaining, energetic style is infectious. The combination of Tarsheen with some of Portland's finest musicians is an unbeatable formula for an unforgettable evening! This talented lady can sing styles ranging from Billie Holiday to Aretha Franklin and everything between.

Joe Millward - Arranger, Keyboards
Joe first started playing piano at the age of 8. He took the classic “old lady” piano lessons, learning to play simple versions of the classics. As he grew older, he started playing drums and other instruments - including studying the bassoon for 6 years.

Paul Mazzio - Trumpet, Fluglehorn
The newest member of the band, Paul has a masters degree in Jazz Performance from North Texas State. He also contracts and plays for shows from “Hello Dolly” to “Les Miserable”.

Jim Solberg - Bass
Jim grew up in Richland, Washington and came from a musical family. He began playing music at the age of 9. Jim's dad played the clarinet & saxophone. His mom and brother both played the piano and accordion. His first gig was when he was 12 years old with his Dad's band called "The Polka-Dots."

Tim Bryson - Saxophones, Flute
Tim was born in Eugene, Oregon and comes with an impressive resume. He has been playing around the state since 1977.

Marty Higgins - Drums
“This guy can really play the drums!” Marty was an original member of the band “Nu Shooz”, who had a #1 hit in 1986 with grammy nominated “I Just Can't Wait”.

Ed Snyder - Guitar
Ed was born in Portland Oregon ‘sometime’ in the fifties; the exact year being lost in the mists of time. The day of his birth is well known ' it being October 31, Halloween. Thus the stage is set for all you amatuer astrologists and mischief makers alike.
