Portland author to speak at the library

Press release date: Wed Apr 13th, 2011

WEST LINN – Portland author Dana Haynes will speak about his new book, Crashers, at the West Linn Public Library on Monday, April 25, at 6:30 PM. This event is free and open to the public.

Crashers is about the aftermath of the crash of CascadeAir Flight 818 just south of Portland. A team of NTSB experts – known as Crashers – arrive from all over the country to try and figure out what happened. In Los Angeles, Daria Gibron, a former Israeli security agent, tries to get close enough to a group of terrorists to find out what they’re planning. The two stories converge in this fast-paced thriller.

In March, Crashers won Haynes the 2011 Spotted Owl Award which is awarded once a year by the Friends of Mystery for the best mystery, thriller, or crime novel by a Pacific Northwest author. The book was short-listed by the American Library Association for the Reference and User Services Association 2011 Reading List. The book is based on a screenplay Haynes wrote, which made it to the semifinals in the Nicholl Fellowship screenwriting competition in 2005. Prior to Crashers, Haynes wrote three mysteries under the pen name Conrad Haynes. He currently works as the Public Affairs Manager for Portland Community College.
