Calendar Date:
Monday, November 14, 2011 - 6:30pm

The Spodee-os will perform at the library on Monday, November 14, 6:30 p.m. The Spodee-os play vintage acoustic blues, with a repertoire that reaches from the 1920s to the 1960s, from Mississippi barbeques to North Carolina street corners to Chicago nightclubs. The music is upbeat and accessible to both blues fans and newcomers alike. Arlo Leach comes from Iowa via Chicago, where he taught at the Old Town School of Folk Music. He started the Chicago Battle of the Jug Bands and led fundraisers to buy gravestones for pre-war blues artists Will Shade, Joe McCoy and Charlie McCoy. In 2010, he was inducted into the Jug Band Hall of Fame. Larry Oxley is a Portland native, and his first harmonica teacher was local legend Paul Delay. His previous bands include the Portland Playboys, Catsh and Eric Hatcher and the Workerbees. He has performed four times at the Waterfront Blues Festival.
