WEST LINN – Louise Clements, owner of Heirloom Roses in St. Paul, Oregon, will present “History Through the Eyes of the Rose” at the West Linn Public Library on Monday, June 1, at 7:00 p.m. This event is co-sponsored by the West Linn Garden Club. Refreshments will be served and plants will be for sale.
Clements will speak about roses and how they relate to the period of history in which they appeared. She has been growing roses for over 30 years. Her nursery in St. Paul has grown from a few small greenhouses in 1985 to 30 very large greenhouses today, and the five-acre display gardens draw visitors from around the world.
Heirloom Roses is especially known for having introduced a cleaner stock of roses which do not have rose virus, a malady that became prevalent in the early 20th century. Clements has traveled throughout Europe looking for antique rose varieties which have gone out of commerce in order to reintroduce them or bring them for the first time to the United States.
