West Linn Library is pleased to announce the passage of the library district. This will allow us to continue to serve our patrons with the high-quality services, programs, and collections they expect. The library is the cultural center of the community and the passage of the Library District will allow us to continue in this important role.
We are pleased to report that West Linn Library recently rose in the statewide HAPLR ranking to number three! This is an improvement from 2007, when the West Linn Public Library was ranked in the number four spot behind Lake Oswego, Corvallis, and Multnomah County libraries. The HAPLR (Hennen's American Public Library Ratings) Index rates more than 9,000 public libraries in the United States and 123 libraries in Oregon using federal library data. Libraries are rated, scored and ranked on 15 input and output measures.
“The City of West Linn is very proud our library’s continuing excellence. To be recognized as a top-three library in Oregon is a great accomplishment,” said City Manager Chris Jordan. “The Library is West Linn’s cultural center, and the City will continue to make library services an important component of the municipal services we provide,” said Jordan.
The HAPLR index also rates libraries based on the size of the population served; when comparing communities with service populations between 25,000 and 50,000 people, West Linn is ranked second to Lake Oswego.
HAPLR publishes a list of frequently asked questions about the rankings and input and output measures:
