The West Linn Public Library will host an exhibit featuring the work of Sine Morris and Addie Boswell during the month of April. The exhibit will run April 3-28 in the library's Community Room which is open to the public when not in use, and always open on Sundays, noon – 5:00 p.m.
Sine Morris is a self-taught artist who took up paper art when her youngest child started school. She cuts watercolor paper that has been painted with acrylics and builds each detail into a shadow box. She cuts free hand with scissors working from her imagination or from my sketches to create the details that are used to build the scene. Acrylic paints have such saturated colors that often the colors dictate the final subject of a piece. Although the cutting can sometimes be tedious, Morris believes it is a meditative and a necessary process.
Addie Boswell is a muralist and picture book author/illustrator, and the basis of her work is telling people's stories. She is fueled by the everyday life and local color of places she has lived and traveled, and she always returns to people as my subjects. Themes revolve around shared work, community, and a sense of place and season. Children are a constant source of inspiration and much of her artwork involves children or has a playful, childlike exuberance to it. Her pieces are created out paper and acrylic paint, and the designs rely on strong lines and color, with much movement.
