The City now processes all business license requests and renewals securely online and supports payment via credit card, check, money order, or cash.
Business licenses are valid for the fiscal year beginning July 1st and ending June 30th of the following year. Fees for new licenses and renewals are prorated beginning at the six month mark, December 31st.
Check and money order payments can be sent via mail. Cash payments must be made at City Hall. You can send payment after completing the below online form.
Soon after your payment is processed, you will be able to login, download, and print your new business license certificate directly from our website. This new, streamlined process is eco-friendly and saves West Linn taxpayers the cost of printing and mailing hard-copy certificates to each business owner.
HOME OCCUPATION PERMIT FEE “HOLIDAY” AND BUSINESS LICENSING AMNESTY PROGRAM
The City Council has authorized waiving the fees for home occupation permits (new and renewal) during FY 2013 (July 1, 2012 – June 30 2013). The applicable permits and renewals are still required, but no fee for the home occupation portion will be charged. The business license fee is still charged. The amnesty program will permit any existing unlicensed business to apply to the City without penalty. This proposal is intended to expand the database of home occupation permits in the City. Chris Kerr, Economic Development Director, will be completing a review of all aspects of the City’s business licensing program for the purpose of developing tools and incentives focused on better meeting the needs of the business community. This will include reviewing procedures, regulations, fees, and the benefits provided to businesses from the City. Please feel free to contact staff at 503-657-0331 with any suggestions for improving the licensing process. View Council’s decision here: Agenda Bill 2012-06-25-04
Metro Business License versus City Business License or Both?:
Instead of getting separate business licenses within each Portland-area city that you conduct business in, you can get a single license from Metro to construct, alter and repair structures in 20 cities that have licensing requirements in the metropolitan area. The license covers all construction trades, both commercial and residential, as well as all landscape contractors. The Metro license allows contractors or landscapers to operate in 20 cities surrounding Portland having licensing requirements in the metropolitan area, excluding Portland. Exception: if your principal place of business is inside the City of West Linn, the business is required to apply for a City of West Linn Business License in addition to the Metro License. For Metro applications, contact Metro at 503-797-1710 or visit their website at: http://www.oregonmetro.gov/index.cfm/go/by.web/id=24216.
