News from the West Linn Public Library - Library Appreciation Day is Saturday, October 18. Join us at the library between noon and 5:00 to celebrate your community and your library. The West Linn Lions will be selling Lion Burgers (reserve your burger by picking up a ticket at the library by October 14), there will be an open mic in the Community Room for sharing library stories, Rhys Thomas will be performing his hilarious Jugglemania act, the Riverview Lions will be selling dessert, and the ensemble group from the West Linn Community Chorus will be performing.

The library is teaching an Excel Basics class this month. This introductory class is for people with basic computer skills (i.e., using the mouse and keyboard), but who have little or no experience using Microsoft Excel, a popular spreadsheet program. Students will learn about working with Excel worksheets and workbooks, identifying rows and columns, entering data into cells and ranges, creating simple mathematical formulas, and using some of Excel’s built-in functions. Saturday, October 25, 9:30 a.m., or Thursday, October 30, 6:30 p.m. Please call the information desk to register: 503-656-7853.

Tales & Tails is now offered two days a week! Children sign up for 20-minute sessions to read to a dog every Wednesday or Thursday between 3:30 and 5:00. Each child chooses a book and how much reading and petting to do. All dog and handler teams are certified volunteers from the Delta Society Animal Assisted Therapy & Education Program. Reservations are required, so please call the library at 503-656-7853.
