Jim Mattis Nominated for Appointment to Vacant West Linn Councilor Position

WEST LINN – Jim Mattis was nominated for appointment to the vacant West Linn City Councilor position at tonight’s special City Council meeting. His nomination was approved by a vote of 3-1 (Councilors Burgess, Carson, and Kovash supported his appointment and Councilor Cummings opposed it). Mr. Mattis will be formally appointed to the City Council on May 10, 2010 at the scheduled City Council meeting. He will participate in the May 3, 2010 work session. Mr. Mattis indicated that he will run in the September special election that is required to fill the vacant position for the remainder of the term, which runs through December 31, 2012.

The City Council narrowed the list of 26 applicants down to six applicants to interview on Thursday night to fill the vacancy that is created by Council President Kovash’s anticipated appointment to the mayor position. The six applicants interviewed were: Karen Hensley, Mike Jones, Jim Mattis, Bob McCarthy, Tom Neff, and Curt Sommer.
