1,000 Books Before Kindergarten is the library’s reading program for families and caregivers with children who have not yet entered kindergarten. We encourage parents and caregivers to read aloud to the children in their care every day and this program offers prizes and incentives to encourage families to reach that goal. Sign up for 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten at the downstairs desk.

Thanks to the Friends of the Library, the library offers free family passes to area cultural venues. There is one pass for each venue and they may be reserved in advance. You will need a library card in good standing to check out a pass.

The Portland Children's Museum discontinued their cultural pass program as of August 31, 2014. They are now offering the Museum Access Program to help families who face economic, social, or physical barriers.

Kids sign up for 20-minute sessions to read to a dog downstairs at the library. Each child chooses a book and how much reading and petting to do. Reading to the dogs increases enthusiasm for reading, develops reading skills, teaches children how to interact with pets and promotes confidence.

Our dog handlers encourage interaction with their dogs and will offer help if needed. All dog and handler teams are certified therapy trained.

Many of the high quality youth and sports programs in the West Linn area are handled by outside organizations not affiliated with the Parks and Recreation Department. The information in this area is updated as initial or new contact information is provided by the organizations.

We make efforts to solicit appropriate contact information, but it is not always possible. If you know of other local youth sports organizations please pass them along to us.
