On Thursday morning at 8:15am an eleven year old boy was waiting for the school bus on the corner of Parker Road and Dillon Lane. When the bus stopped the driver activated its red lights. The victim stepped from the curb to cross the street and was struck by a westbound car, driven by a 17 year old West Linn High School student.
The victim, a Sunset Primary School student, received very minor injuries. He was checked at the scene by medics from American Medical Response (AMR) and went home with his mother.
Officer Neil investigated the crash, and determined the victim was struck by the passenger side mirror of the car.
The driver was cited for "Failure to stop for bus safety lights" (ORS 811.155)
"Drivers are reminded they must stop for flashing lights on school busses" said West Linn Police Chief Terry Timeus, "It is also important to exercise caution when driving during the hours kids are going to and coming from school."
"We were very lucky this incident did not have a more tragic outcome" said Sergeant Neil Hennelly, West Linn Police spokesperson.
Names of the involved students are not being released as they are juveniles.
