Traffic Stop Leads to Large Drug Seizure in West Linn

WEST LINN - Early Tuesday morning, July 7, 2009 at 12:12am, West Linn Police stopped a vehicle as it left Mary S. Young Park. During the stop large amounts of psilocybin mushrooms, tar heroin, cash, and a semi-automatic pistol were seized. Arrested at the scene was the driver Alex C. BRADLEY (18) of West Linn. He was initially charged with Possession of Controlled Substances (PCS) for psilocybin mushrooms along with false information to the police. The case is being referred to the Grand Jury for additional charges; to include delivery and possession of various controlled substances within 1000 feet of a school. The passenger Justin Alan BURKE (31),also of West Linn, was arrested for Probation Violation regarding alcohol consumption. Officer Ryan LESMEISTER was working radar along Willamette Drive (Hwy. 43) at the entrance of Mary S. Young Park, which had been closed for several hours. The vehicle driven by Mr. BRADLEY drove out of the park and pulled up behind the officer's marked WLPD car. Mr. BRADLEY drove around the officer and was stopped by Officer LESMEISTER for violation of park hours. During their initial contact, the driver told the officer he had no identification and used a false name to identify himself. He was subsequently taken into custody for false information for a citation. During the handcuffing procedure Officer Tony POITRAS saw a wrist band with Mr. Bradley's name on it. Mr. BRADLEY was driving on a suspended driver's license and his car was impounded. During the impound procedure, a methamphetamine pipe was found in the trunk along with a safe and two backpacks. A drug detection dog from the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office responded and alerted on the safe. A search warrant was subsequently served on the safe and backpacks. Officers found a veritable pharmacy, including about 350 grams of psilocybin mushrooms ($1,760) along with 18 bags (20 grams) of tar heroin, worth about $1,800, methadone, oxycodone, marijuana, a semi-automatic pistol, and a Community Service Officer Uniform from the City of Happy Valley including a cloth badge. The uniform was reported stolen from a car break in several months ago in Happy Valley. Also found in the safe was $2,985 in cash, illegal fireworks, a digital scale and packaging materials.
