Uniformed officers make up our Patrol Division. The men and women of the Patrol Division handle a wide variety of calls throughout the year. They are our first responders to all emergencies and crimes in West Linn, and surrounding areas, but also provide assistance to lower level issues every day. When you call 9-1-1, or the non-emergency dispatch number (503.635.0238), a member of the Patrol Division responds.
Uniformed officers patrol the city day and night, with 24 hour per day staffing each and every day of the year. The Patrol Division is managed by a Lieutenant, who answers directly to the Police Chief. The Lieutenant supervises five patrol sergeants who oversee patrol officers; one on day shift, two on the afternoon shift and two on the overnight shift.
The Patrol Division includes the Traffic Unit which is comprised of a day shift Motorcycle Officer and an evening DUII car. These officers have received special training in Traffic Crash reconstruction, DUII investigations, and drugs that impair drivers. The mission of the unit is to reduce injury, death and property damage through the education and enforcement of the Motor Vehicle Code. They subscribe to the “3 E Rule” of traffic, Educate, Enforcement, and Engineering” and work with the City’s Traffic Safety Committee to keep our community safe.
West Linn also Partners with the West Linn-Wilsonville School District to provide a School Resource Officer (SRO) who is assigned to the West Linn High School but is available to all schools in West Linn. Our SRO works very closely with the SRO at Wilsonville High School.
The Patrol Division also has a uniformed, non-sworn Community Service Officer who handles a wide variety of livability issues, including animal control, parking enforcement, and nuisance abatement. They also coordinate our Safe Reunion Program which is a registration program to help people with memory or other issues get home safely.
