Chris Kerr Named West Linn Community Development Director
WEST LINN – City Manager Chris Jordan has named Chris Kerr as the new West Linn Community Development Director. Previously, Kerr served as the Economic Development Director, and has been the interim Planning Director since October 2013.
Kerr’s title of “Community Development Director” is new to the West Linn management team. Previously, West Linn had a Planning Director and an Economic Development Director. These jobs will be consolidated in the Community Development Director job description.
The Community Development Director will oversee the Community Development Department, which will provide planning, building inspections, and economic development services to the West Linn community. The purpose of this reorganization is to attain greater efficiencies, and to align land use planning, inspections, and economic development, which is necessary to fulfill the City Council’s goals and the community’s expectations.
The reorganization into a Community Development Department will also include the creation of a new “Planning Manager” position to oversee the day-to-day activities of planning staff. In total, the reorganization results in a net zero full-time equivalent (FTE) change.
“The creation of a Community Development Department allows our focus to remain on the community priorities of economic development and responsible growth for West Linn. I have complete confidence in Chris Kerr’s abilities to create a successful department that is focused on our community values,” said Chris Jordan about the city’s reorganization.
“I look forward to continuing to work with the City Council, Economic Development Committee, Planning Commission, and Historic Review Board as the Community Development Director,” said Kerr of his new position. “West Linn has a strong commitment to smart community development, and this reorganization will strengthen our ability to meet the City Councils’ goals for West Linn,” Kerr said.
Kerr was originally hired as the Senior Planner in 2007. He served as the interim Planning Director in 2009, as the interim Assistant City Manager in 2012, and was appointed Economic Development Director in 2012.
As a member of the management team, Kerr will be paid in the $7,269 to $9,920 range.
