Press release date: Tue Jan 20th, 2009
On January 19, 2009 at 12:16am Officers Tony Poitras and Brad Moyle were dispatched to a residence in the 6800 block of Marquette Drive in West Linn’s Bolton Neighborhood regarding a loud party complaint. The arriving officers contacted several juveniles as they left the residence in question and determined they were under age and had been drinking alcohol. Several also admitted to smoking marijuana. During their investigation they requested the assistance of West Linn Officer Patrick McConnell.
The investigation led them into the home where about a dozen juveniles and minors were present. Some, not all had been drinking alcohol; they were detained, cited and released to their parents.
During the investigation a backpack was located that had 11 grams of cocaine in it packaged for sale and brass knuckles. Next to the backpack officers found a loaded and holstered 9mm pistol and a stiletto switchblade knife.
These items were determined to belong to Rhys W. Short, 18 of 8066 SE 7th Avenue, Portland. He was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the Clackamas County Jail. At the time of his arrest, Mr. Short was on Felony Probation from Multnomah County Juvenile Department. Another person at the party was a registered sex offender.
The person who provided the residence for the party was not contacted at the scene, but was contacted that evening and cited into Juvenile Court for providing premises for the consumption of alcohol by minors.
The West Linn Police caution parents to know what their teens are doing, and to know who they are hanging around with. It is illegal for a person under 21 years of age to possess any amount of alcohol, unless they are at their home and under DIRECT parental supervision.
